The Muddled Man Inn
InThe Hart of West Chinnock

Amongst the hills, Churches & rural beauty of the small village of West Chinnock sits this interesting and quirky pub, an Inn that encourages a sense of HUMOUR but takes Real Ales and Whisky very seriously but also dose food.
The pub occupies a building that was built around 1650; It was originally intended as weavers’ cottages, then licensed as a cider house in the early 1890's, and has taken on a number of names & forms since, for this reason the only parking is on the road shared with the Village School so during term time the cars parked outside at lunch time may be for the school & not for the Pub. In the case of large groups, we have access to parking off the road for most of the cars by prior arrangement
The beer garden at the front of the pub catches the sun all day long, and with the hanging baskets and flower troughs in bloom throughout the summer is a great place to sit in the Sunshine.
When the Weather is at its worst then the large Ham stone hearth at the end of the bar, and its small but friendly bar area, has a warm and welcoming feel all year round. You will find a warm & friendly welcome here but please remember to bring your sense of humour with you.
Our small but very well stocked Bar carries 50+ Single Scotch Malts, 20+ Gins, 20+ Rums.
On the 3 hand Pumps we rotate through 12 West Country Breweries from Cheddar Ales & Teignworthy from Devon Geoff Brewery Cheltenham to more local Brewers Exmoor Ales. Otter Brewery produce 2 Bavarian Purity Law Larger’s Tarka 4 and Tarka Pure 4.8% along with Wildsider a 4.1% Cider (most people can’t tell if it’s Thatcher’s or not). Along with Burrow Hill traditional Flat dry cider.
The Muddled Man Inn is not A Gastro pub or just a drinking pub, there can also be found traditional pub grub on offer, prepared using locally farmed produce. So, if you’re looking for a reasonably priced meal without the pretentious bits (we don’t do slates or wooden boards for plates, nor triple cooked chips in a cup on the side), but we do offer a good selection of Steak & real traditional English pub comfort food. Cooking our own hams and we have the sausages and burgers made by our local butcher Mr K McAdam of Martock for our Sunday joint and other Beef.

While the Friday Real Ale Battered fish is sourced from Bridport in West Bay.

You can choose anything from a simple starter of home-made soups to fillet steaks, burgers and delicious deep filled pies.

The Sunday Roast is to something to try with freshly cooked Pork & Beef, sometime Lamb with Chicken a Pre-ordered request, along with The Vegetarian option as the Roast Potatoes are done in dripping. All cooked fresh on Sunday Morning with seasonal vegetables coming straight off the Farms of Shepton Beauchamp.
The Roast are Gluten Free apart from the Yorkshire Puddings (sorry we have tried alternatives, but they don’t come up-to our standards). Please note that only Roast’s or salad’s available at this Mealtimes the Kitchen is Small & fryer space is need for the service of the Roast’s.
The pub is fully wheelchair-accessible with a disabled toilet situated in the entrance hall. With slopes on the ground floor to all public areas.

Our story

A Real Old-Fashioned Family Run Village Pub
This little gem of a pub is in the heart of the Village Chinnock at the foot of the Ham Hill between the A30 Crewkerne & Yeovil and the A356 Crewkerne & the A303.
The Medcalf family Cyril (Mick) & Garry have been here since March 1999. Coming from a family of publicans they run the pub in the old fashioned way of the bar being their front room and not like most establishment today where they are only interested in pushing sales, like when you walk into a pub and the first thing they are ask is “are you dinning with us “ or “Do you want a Menu “ but you say no “I’m just after a drink” & then you get a funny look from behind the bar and then while you’re at the table having a little fun are ask “could you keep the noise down” but worst of all ! you find a lectern at the door then you know you’re not entering a pub you’re in a restaurant. But then there are those places where the staff & owners don’t chat with the customers over the bar then you’re not in a real local, but one of those town centre corporate drinking places.
This is the kind of Pub where light heart-ed banter is always being used by the customers and Landlords alike. This is the kind of place where the only strangers are those who don’t like to join in or think this is beneath them. So if you don’t think that you can live with a little bit of cheeky fun then this is defiantly not the place for you, but if you don’t have Airs & Graces & have a good sense of humour and are happy to let your guard and hair down then this may well be just what you are looking for.
The Pub sponsors the village Football & Cricket Clubs and have several skittle teams in irreverent leagues during the winter seasons most nights.
The Food is only Pub Grub with Steaks and Home Made Pies along with Home Cooked Ham & Real Ale Batter Fish &  Chips on Fridays with a Choice of Meats for Traditional Sunday Roasts all cooked by the family themselves.
As a country Pub walkers with or without Dogs are always welcome for just a drink or a meal as well.
The Pub is only small with a single Bar with seating for only 30 people and as such we don’t have any highchairs for young children but you are welcome to bring you own booster seat.
The skittle ally / function room can be used for all types of event from Christenings, Weddings, Funerals, Birthdays, Anniversaries or any Sports Club or Charity event, Self-catered or not.
